Wedding Photography – Second Photographer

10 Good Reasons for having 2 Photographers at your Wedding It is a blizzard out there and so I thought I would use this time to write a blog about the 10 key reasons why I always use a second shooter at weddings. Your Photographer cannot be in two places at once. A second shooter’s first job is to capture the Groom Preparations, including the details of their suits and accessories plus the humour and usual brotherly bonding that goes on. Couples […]

Matfen Hall Winter Wedding

It was one of those magical snowy days. At Matfen Hall, the snow was coming down hard and Stacy was beginning to worry that her guests might struggle to reach this beautiful but remote location. Matfen Hall is a 19th Century Country Mansion set in 300 acres of Northumberland countryside. Fortunately, as the morning went on the snow started to slow and we were left with a glorious carpet of white as a backdrop to the wedding. Our groom, Dan […]

Backworth Hall Wedding – Kerrie & Joe

On a fresh but bright late November day at Backworth Hall, Kerrie and Joe were married. It was a lovely day, which started for myself and my assistant Stacey quite early. I accompanied Kerrie, her Mum and her Bridesmaids to have their hair perfected by the team at Hooker & Young along with Make Up Artists Debbie Thomson of Peek a Boo and Rhiannon Crowther of Once Upon a Time. Stacey joined Joe and his groomsmen getting ready at their hotel […]

Brinkburn Details: Situated in a secluded wooded ravine on the banks of the river Coquet in Northumberland, the beautiful 12th century church, stables and grounds of the estate is an unforgettable location for weddings and one of the most exquisite backdrops in Northumberland for your wedding photography. The White Room provides space for up to 80 people for […]

Hate your photo being taken? Top Tip

“Anyone whose played a part, Anyone whose had a heart” – Sweet Jane by The Velvet Underground For many people born in the 2000s and later then the ability to pose into a mobile phone becomes natural (after lots of practice). For those of us who are a little bit older it does not come quite as easy and I would estimate that 75% of people hate having their photo taken. Comments usually range from feeling awkward to never liking […]

Top Tips for Brides and Grooms

Brides and Grooms – From the Confetti to the Posing….. I thought it was a good time to update some of my top tips for Brides and Grooms. As we get into Autumn and Winter, couples are often keen to start preparations for their weddings next year, so here are some of my learnings from the past 12 months. The Confetti – Some venues and churches do not allow confetti to be thrown (paper/rice), Brides and Grooms why not consider bubbles […]

Ultimate Guide to Pre-Wedding Shoot Locations

The 5 Best Locations for Pre-Wedding Shoots The two questions I get asked the most about Pre-Wedding Shoots are a) what to wear and b) where to go. The first is quite easy, it’s up to you, but I would suggest either dress if you were a guest at friend’s wedding, going for a nice Sunday lunch with family or wrapped up against the elements in your best coat and scarf. A lot depends on the weather and time of […]

Brinkburn Wedding Photography

“I know a bank where the wild thyme blows, Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows, Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine, With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine.”  William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream With a floral theme of sunflowers then it was appropriate that a cloudless sky welcomed the guests on the day of Zara and Craig’s wedding.  My second photographer, Stacey joined the groom and his groomsmen where they were located at a guest house in Rothbury, Northumberland. A […]

Lumley Castle Wedding Photography

Helen and Pete’s Wedding On a glorious Saturday in June, Helen and Pete were married at Lumley Castle in County Durham. For more than 600 years the magnificent spectacle of Lumley Castle has dominated the County Durham landscape. Set within nine acres of parkland overlooking the River Wear. The castle is also famous for it’s  ghosts!  http://www.lumleycastle.com/weddings/ Helen and her young bridesmaids were having their finishing touches to their hair and make up when Stacey and myself arrived. Helen’s 83 year […]
