Having recently visited New York for the first time, it is probably worth sharing a few thoughts on Photography in a City. If you are new to Street Photography then I would not recommend pointing your camera at complete strangers as their reaction may not be welcoming. Whichever City you are in then there is enough around you to capture the mood and the sense of scale. It is not always necessary to have everything in focus and this is where aperture mode and shallow depth of field comes into play. This is best exemplified by my image of the Empire State Building, where I have chosen to put the telescope lookout in focus rather than the building. Unusual features, such as fire hydrants, point to a sense of place. There is still a place for people, but try different angles such as low down or from above.
