I recently undertook an enjoyable family shoot near Biddick Hall in County Durham.
Google Maps is a very useful tool to get an idea of the location but there is nothing like a pre-shoot reconnaissance trip. There are large areas of private land interspersed with public pathways. One such pathway leads through a delightful wooded area. The dappled light and autumn leaves provided lots of great photo opportunities.
David and Lisa’s children were wonderful to photograph and very easy going. Maintaining their relaxed manner ensured that their calm temperaments and easy-going nature were captured in camera. I took around 100 shots and during post-production I very quickly realised that those that made the most impact were when either one of the children were looking off camera. As this was a natural response it is difficult to replicate and still look authentic, but I will certainly attempt it again in the future.
